Phone Booth

Phone Booth Cover Art

The premise of this movie always intrigued me – a man answers a pay phone on a New York city street and the voice on the other end tells him that he’s in the sights of his high powered rifle and if he tries to leave the booth, he’ll be killed. The gunman kills an innocent bystander near the booth to prove that he’s not kidding and the vast majority of the film will take place inside the small confines of this nondescript phone booth and the surrounding city block. Scooby-Doo

Some of you may know Scooby-Doo from the original 1969 cartoon of the same name, others may recognize it solely in it live-action form, regardless we all know Scooby-Doo as the loveable crime-solving dog. This children’s picture computer generates Sooby-Doo and combines this with some then famous teen idols like Freddie Prinze Jr, Matthew Lillard, and Sarah Michelle Gellar and has since put out a sequel with another one planned in the near future. The Marine

The Marine Cover Art

John Cena is The Marine. Though, as matters develop, The Maroon might be a better handle. At any rate, after being discharged for having Disobeyed a Direct Order in Iraq (where, in a scene distinctly reminiscent of the opening of The Naked Gun, our boy shoots up one of those elusive Al-Qaeda training camps that nobody else seems to be able to find). Flyboys

War films have always been the type of film that hold a high level of enjoyment for me. Even though I’ve never (luckily I might add) experienced war first hand, I’ve had numerous family members that have. I suppose war films are so important to me because war is an occurrence that will always be occurring regardless of time. World War I based films in particular are usually interesting as this was a tumultuous time for everyone involved. So what exactly happened with Fox’s recent WWI based film Flyboys? Continue Reading

Saw III

I’m not usually the guy to go to for opinions on horror films as I almost always stay away from them (not because I don’t like being scared but rather because horror films aren’t what they use to be anymore). So what about Saw III forced me to see this one? Well I found the first two films (particularly the second) enjoyable enough with a few true quality scares. And what many saying the third is the best in the series, I figured I’d enjoy this one quite a bit. Well the end result is rather positive. Continue Reading

The Descent

With the amount of cut-rate horror movies that have been put out as of late, I didn?t except much of the British horror film, The Descent. With a premise comparable to The Cave, the characters of the story go caving where they are met by a subterranean form of life, hell-bent on feeding off them. A pretty basic plot, but with some good potential, how does The Descent play out? Continue Reading

The Architect

A low budget independent film based on a play also called The Architect, the movie stars Anthony LaPaglia, Viola Davis, and Hayden Panettiere. Although there are several underlying themes and battles, the main plot of the film is the conflict of an architect with an activist. The activist, Tonya Neeley (Viola Davis), wishes to have her complex torn down due to its escalating levels of violence and danger, which leads her to find the endorsing signature to tear down the buildings from the man who designed it, Leo Waters (Anthony LaPaglia). The Covenant

Man, oh man. What is today with studios treating stupid, monotonous films like they’re new pieces of work? I sometimes wonder why I sit down and waste my time with films like The Covenant. The only reason one can think of is so I can tell everyone to simply avoid a film like or because there is something eerily attracting about bad, cheesy films that we must see. Continue Reading

The Guardian

A quick question for all of you before I begin this. When will these feel-good films stop being made? Every single one of them is advertised in the same exact manner. They tell us that these characters are going through a tough experience with an underdog tone. Sure films of this nature can be great (try Remember the Titans and the recent Invincible), but for every film that is good, we’re given a film that tries way too hard. A perfect example is the recent film The Guardian that suffers from being overly long. Continue Reading

Bikini Destination: Triple Fantasy

Bikini Destinations Cover Art

Let’s start this review off with a little equation…

E!’s Wild On (- the storyline) + a late night adult infomercial (- clothes) = Bikini Destination

This show, and HDNet original program, is quite useless… in a beautiful kind of way. Bikini Destination places some of the most beautiful swimsuit models (often minus the swimsuits) in some of the world’s most beautiful locals. We get some interview type information about the models, but for the most part, this show is all about eye candy. Continue Reading

Windtalkers

Windtalkers is yet another World War II movie, but unlike most others it’s not about the Nazi’s, rather about Americas battle with The Empire of Japan. Prior to receiving this title for review, I had never seen this film. This is surprising since local accomplished actor Adam Beach co-stars, so it was about time I checked it out.

The movie begins as we are immersed into a battle where Joe Enders (Nicholas Cage) is fighting off the Japanese with his fellow Marines. Continue Reading

Goal! The Dream Begins

Soccer has always been a big part of my life. While I don?t follow it as actively as I use to as a kid (I played soccer for 9 years), I still love watching the World Cup every 4 years and watching random soccer films. Low and behold my excitement when received in the latest soccer film entitled Goal! The Dream Begins.

The basic plot of the film goes a little something like this. Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) works in a local Los Angeles Chinese restaurant as a busboy (obviously for minimal wages). His li… Continue Reading
