Reign of Fire

This kind of movie hasn’t really been able to do it for me in the past. I hoped that Reign of Fire could be the exception, primarily because it showcases the likes of two suave and talented actors – Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale. The concept, as far out as it is, seems like it could be interesting enough. Continue Reading

Ladder 49

Ladder 49 was among the first fictitious movies based on the risks and personal lives of firefighters since 9/11. It attempts to showcase the trials and tribulations of a typical firefighter, their pride, respect, and brotherhood involved in their workday. Trying to make a picture that celebrates what these men do for citizens on a daily basis is a pretty daunting task, as firefighters truly are heroes, how does Ladder 49 end up? Continue Reading

The Prestige

The Prestige is an adaptation from Christopher Priest?s novel of the same name, directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins). Nominated for two Academy Awards, The Prestige promises to be a highly entertaining movie featuring two of the most talented foreign actors today: Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. Also headlining the billing are Michael Caine, David Bowie, and Scarlett Johansson. Continue Reading

Chicago

Chicago is an adaptation of the musical Chicago, which debuted in 1975, and has since become an iconic Broadway show. In addition to its success on the stage Chicago is an acclaimed film, which took away six Academy Awards at the 2002 showing, including Best Picture. I’ll admit I’m not one for musicals so I wasn’t exactly looking forward to watching this movie for the first time, but I went in with an unbiased mind and hoped for the best. Continue Reading

Beerfest

The Broken Lizard comedy group is probably best known for putting out Super Troopers in 2001. Since then, they have released Club Dread among other projects, and have achieved somewhat of a cult status amongst film fans. Critically and commercially Broken Lizard has at best barely crossed the line of mediocrity. Beerfest hopes to provide a few laughs while including roles from some notable celebrities like Donald Sutherland, Cloris Leachman, and Jurgen Prochnow. Continue Reading

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Based upon the book of the same name, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a science fiction comedy released in 2005. The cast includes the likes of hip-hop artist/actor Mos Def, Martin Freeman, John Malkovich, Bill Nighy, and the vocal talents of Alan Rickman. Continue Reading

The Departed

The Departed pick-ups nicely after two other great Martin Scorsese organized crime classics, Goodfellas and Casino. This time we travel to my hometown of Boston, where we find Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) as an undercover cop for the Boston PD, sent by Dignam (Mark Walberg) to obtain evidence on high-ranking crime boss, Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). Costello has a few tricks up his own sleeve as he has a plant in the Boston PD by the name of Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon). This intense game of cat and mouse continue throughout the film with a very surprising ending. Continue Reading

The Tailor of Panama

Pierce Brosnan has always been one of those actors that can turn any film into something that?s a hell of a lot better than it ever should be simply because the man is a charming actor on screen. Take in case the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. The film is highly entertaining, but not really ?good?, simply because Brosnan plays such an enjoyable character. This is why I was quite surprised that one of his more subdued films 2002?s The Tailor of Panama really isn?t anything amazing.

Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs for the most part got it all started for Quentin Tarantino. This film came to us in 1992 on a tight budget of 1.4 Million dollars and completely changed Hollywood from there on. In many ways it was the Prequel to Pulp Fiction. Reservoir Dogs gave us a breath of fresh air from what Hollywood had been delivering at that time.

This film centers around a jewlery store robbery gone bad. The thiefs, a goup of guys all named after various colors are lying low in a local warehouse afte… Continue Reading

Annapolis

Jake Huard (James Franco) works under his father as a welder in Annapolis, Marryland. Before long, we learn that his true ambition is to join the navy, and be trained at the renowned local United States Naval Academy. He gets accepted into the academy, but this is where the hardships begin. Tyrese Gibson plays Cole the hard ass superior that sees potential in Huard where few others do. The only way he shows his faith is by being extra hard on him, whether it be forfeiting meals, drills in the cold rain, or late night wake up calls asking skill testing naval questions. The Ant Bully

When I was young I enjoyed computer animated shows like ReBoot and Beast Wars, then along came CGI on the big screen with classics like Toy Story and A Bug’s Life, and even since I haven’t stopped enjoying them. Most CGI movies put out lately don’t disappoint (other than a few exceptions); the Ant Bully, produced by the likes of Tom Hanks, seems to potentially follow suit. Along with some impressive voice talent including Nicolas Cage, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, and Paul Giamatti, The Ant Bully seems like it could be a pretty entertaining picture. Continue Reading

Gridiron Gang

The Rock takes on a kinder, gentler role as Sean Porter, a probation officer at juvenile camp outside of Los Angeles, California. The story is loosely based on real event. The story melds the lives of young teenage criminals at camp Kilpatrick. These are youths that are in for selling drugs, car-jacking, murders, and other serious crimes. Facing a huge recidivism rate and constant in fighting between the youths, Porter harkens back to his youth as a football player and decides that the discipline of athletics, namely football, is what these kids need to find better life skills than what is available on t he streets in gang banger families.
