Scary Movie

This movie is the spoof of all spoofs of this generation. It wasn’t the first one created and it’s definitely not the last – especially since this movie itself has spawned three sequels and numerous other spin-off spoofs. As is the case with many of these “spoof” films, it is written, directed, and stars the Wayans Brothers. It directly spoofs Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and every teen slasher flick from the late 90′s. Unlikely most of the lame spoof movies that are released this one is truly hilarious. The Wayans found a way to take crude sexual humor and make it funny again. There is a reason this movie made so much money and a lot of that is due to the great word of mouth it received. It isn’t anything new and some of the gags have at this point been done to death. But I still found this movie amusing.

Video

The MPEG-4 AVC encoding used on this 2.35:1 transfer is marvelous. The film isn?t a huge production and films like that have a tendency to show it but this isn?t the case. It is crystal clear and sharp pretty much throughout the entire film. The colors are bright and vibrant; you get very detailed images and faces. Even during the darker scenes you don?t lose any of the image quality. The blacks are dark and accurate. The only thing keeping this near flawless transfer from being perfect is a bit of edge enhancement. It is a bit noticeable at times, mostly at the very bottom of the film image.

Audio

The PCM 5.1 track found on this disc was average, as there wasn?t to much to it. It was a lot of dialogue mixed in with some rap music in the background. The mix was not spectacular but solid, not needing or even aspire to be anything more. There are certain details in the audio that I noticed as I?ve seen the movie a few times – including certain gagging and swallowing noises that were audible during some of the crude humored scenes (I won?t go into more details then that). The audio levels stay solid without interruption.

Special Features

The extras were definitely lacking and the only part of the disc that was disappointing. They just sent over the extras from the standard DVD. There is a nearly 10 minute long behind the scenes featurette and a few deleted scenes. Neither of which really stood out to me. I?m surprised they didn?t do much else for this release. It would have been a good time to throw together some new extras but they decided it wasn?t worth it I guess.

Final Thoughts

On the whole I was very happy with this disc. The movie still makes me laugh and I have scene it dozens of times. If you did miss it and have any interest at all in spoofs or cheesy teen horror films then I highly recommend it. It sounds good and looks even better. If you are huge fan of special features then I?m sorry. I just don?t think they have much as I truly don?t think they realized what kind of hit they had on their hands.
