It’s hard to think that at one point, Led Zeppelin seemed to be almost anonymous to anyone over 35 years old. But apparently, in an era where the Beatles had just left rock and the Who and Rolling Stones were plugging away, Led Zeppelin’s records were found to be the perfect mix of acoustic, rock, electric blues and rockabilly, with touches of Indian and Nordic themes. When they embarked on their 1973 North American Tour, they decided to hire Joe Massot to shoot some footage from several Madison Square Garden concerts to put on film.

WHAT TIME IS IT? Well, actually it’s about 2:30pm EST during a snowstorm where I’m sitting, but had I asked the same question to either of my kids, or likely any preteen of the female gender, I may have been answered with: SUMMERTIME! followed by the rest of the theme from High School Musical 2, which has already been so ingrained into their very being, they have no choice but to break into song on cue. Yep, that even includes my 3 year old. You might think I’m a sad excuse for a parent, but maybe I’m just looking for ANY possible alternative to grown men singing about fruit salad. So yeah, we’re cool with HSM at my house, and it’s only easier to justify on Blu-ray.

In a rather quiet and slightly anonymous directorial debut, Ben Affleck has managed to craft a gem of a film and dispel a lot of myths and preconceived notions about him and others. I mean, cripes, this guy chased around Chris Kattan as “Mango” on an episode of Saturday Night Live several years back. Then, he met a fiery Latina whom a lot of people seem to despise because her doodoo presumably doesn’t stink. The two starred in Gigli, a film that critics loved to savage with good reason, so it’s best to not really talk about that much. Then, he decides to direct and cast his brother in his first film? The nerve of this guy!

Blade Runner: The Final Cut is the fifth version of director Ridley Scott’s 1982 film taking place in a dystopian future set in Los Angeles in 2019. Blade Runner is based loosely on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? It places us in a grim future, in a dirty and overpopulated Los Angeles. The Tyrell Cooperation has taken genetic creation to a new level; they now have the ability to create a person. These people are called Replicants, and can be created to have more strength, endurance and intelligence than a normal person. Continue Reading

The Simpsons Movie is the long awaited trip to the big screen for everyone’s favorite American family. Matt Groening the creator of The Simpsons television series has been talking of making a movie since the shows fourth season and it has now just been released. Production on the movie started in 2001, with many of the shows best writers from the earlier season signing on. As a fan of television series I was very pleased that the movie was much more like earlier seasons with its irreverent humour. Continue Reading
