The title of this most recent Stargate direct to video film is rather ironic. It marks a continuation of the wonderful SG-1 saga, but it also may mark the end of the road as well. Along with The Ark Of Truth, Continuum was intended as an experiment of its own. When the Sci-Fi Channel unceremoniously dumped the beloved series from its schedule after five years (there was a previous five year run on Showtime) the cast and crew of SG-1 were nearly as shocked as the rest of us. The show was in the midst of a new epic story arc that it was not possible to conclude before the final season ran its course. Continue Reading

I came into Shutter with relatively low expectations. This is an American version of a Thai film, using a Japanese director. Let’s face it, this Asian Invasion horror movement has begun to produce some very bad horror movies here in the US. I can’t begin to describe how tired I am of films like The Grudge that offer so much promise but quickly descend into what has already become a very tired cliché. How many more films about creepy long haired Japanese female ghosts do we really need? Continue Reading

I’ll admit right off the bat; this movie isn’t really for me. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, maybe it’s because I’m a male, hell maybe it’s even because I can’t dance, I don’t know. What I do know is this… I really couldn’t, no matter how hard I tried, relate to this film. While my girlfriend loves these types of movies, she an active dancer though, I find it hard to believe that this movie would appeal to many outside the few it’s meant for. If you’re in your teen years, most likely female and love to dirty dance, this movie is totally for you, everyone else… yeah probably not. Continue Reading

Fox Home Entertainment has just released details on a series of new “Scary” Blu-ray releases set to hit the streets on September 9th… just in time for Halloween.
“Prepare to scream as the dark terror of Damien is unleashed in high-definition with the Collector’s Edition BD release of the infamous horror film THE OMEN (1976) starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick. Also available on BD will be the pulse-pounding THE OMEN COLLECTION four-disc set featuring all three of the original chilling films (The Omen, Damien: Omen II and Omen III: Final Conflict), as well as the terrifying 2006 blockbuster remake of The Omen that spooked audiences and critics alike.
The high-def terror continues on Blu-ray with the release of the visually stunning Russian horror/fantasy epics NIGHT WATCH and DAY WATCH from acclaimed director Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) about the ultimate apocalyptic battle between the forces of Light and Darkness unlike any the world has ever known.” – Fox Home Entertainment

The Eye was not a great movie but it’s not horrible either, it’s simply an average movie. In a growing trend of recent Japanese/Chinese horror remakes The Eye is actually one of the better. Released in 2008, the film stars Jessica Alba as Sydney Wells. It is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong-Thai-Singaporean film of the same name, “Jian Gui,” which in my opinion is also the better of the two. Today I will review The Eye on Blu-ray. Continue Reading

Francis Ford Coppola returns to filmmaking after a 10 year hiatus of winemaking. While I admit I do enjoy his wines, it is nice to see the man returning to his other, well, hobby at this point. For his return, he has chosen to tell a tale based on a Romanian novel and via his own financing at a lower-budget. The end product is a quiet, dramatic look at man’s life and how he may relive it if given the chance. Part WWII period-piece, part superhuman sci-fi (yes, you read that correctly) the film doesn’t quite live up to Coppola’s masterpieces but is still a decent addition to his cannon of films. The interesting thing about reviewing movies is that at any given time you can be handed a movie that is just so out of your usual realm of movie watching. That is what I like about reviewing movies. You get to experience so many different genres than the typical mainstream flick. So, when the time came to review Persepolis, I knew this would be one of those times. However, could my mainstream mind handle the change? Continue Reading

I’ve made it known in the past that I’m a huge fan of horror movies. I love the feeling you get when you’re scared, the adrenaline rush to the senses that just grasps you throughout your cinematic experience. To date there have been very few horror movies that focus on the theory of human possession and exorcisms, today I will review one such film. Continue Reading

An urban legend is a form of modern folklore consisting of stories thought to be factual by those circulating them. The term is often used to mean something akin to an “apocryphal story.” Like all folklore, urban legends are not necessarily false, but they are often distorted, exaggerated, or sensationalized over time.
