There are so many movies that get released; sometimes people will question why they even get released in the first place. I know I have done it myself. In regards to this film, Untraceable, I am more than sure someone asked the same question. Given its negative reviews, it is hard to go into viewing the film with a positive opinion. However, that is why you should watch the film yourself and be the judge. Continue Reading

Since he got his big start on Saturday Night Live, Adam Sandler has had quite a bit of success. Films such as Big Daddy & The Longest Yard, among others, more than three quarters of the time, are a hit movie. It doesn’t matter that some of his films are completely, and utterly stupid, people just love his movies. In this film, 50 First Dates, Sandler teams up once again with Drew Barrymore in hope of finding that same chemistry they had in The Wedding Singer. Continue Reading

Michael Bay found himself deep in the heart of the HD-DVD and Blu-ray format wars when he made a statement to the effect that his mega hit Transformers wasn’t going to truly shine on home video until it was out in Blu. Shortly after that statement Paramount made the $300 million commitment to HD-DVD, leaving Bay and his comments at odds with the studio that owned the film. Bay did his best to backpedal soon enough, and it looked like he was willing to drink some red Kool-Aid. Of course, many of us in this industry knew that Bay was right all along. I called the Blu victory on the pages of Upcomingdiscs.com almost a full year before it was finally decided. I guess the release of Transformers on Blu, for me anyway, truly marks the end of the HD-DVD era. Was it worth the effort? You bet. Continue Reading

Woo… no one can be told exactly what The Matrix is…. oh oops… wrong movie. Ok so every time I see Keanu Reeves all I can ever picture is Neo and that damn Matrix, talk about a lasting role for an actor. But as you know The Matrix hasn’t hit Blu-ray yet, it’s coming in Oct, so today I will review one of Keanu’s other flicks, Street Kings on Blu. Continue Reading

I’ll admit I’m not a really fan of TV shows; I just really can’t get into the idea of watching an hour long episode every week that just drags you on until the next episode. For me it’s always been about movies, you sit down for a view and you get the whole story, complete and done, I don’t know I just like that concept. But as a reviewer sometimes you get the chance to view something a little different than your used to, today I got that chance as I sat down to review the Blu-ray release of Mad Men. Continue Reading

If I said it once, I have said it a thousand times; Will Smith just knows how to make money when it comes to movies. Sure, he has had some flops, but for the most part, a 100 million box office is almost a given. Tommy Lee Jones is no slouch either, with films such as The Fugitive, No Country for Old Men and Man of the House; he also has a box office draw. Put those two together and what do you have? Well, you have yourself a money making team that is almost sure to entertain. Continue Reading

“That’s always the way it goes”.
When The Mummy broke the bank in 1999, a sequel was more than assured. Today it’s very common that participants are signed to multi-picture deals to assure the ability of doing a swift return to the cash cow. All of the first film’s characters, at least those that survived the first go around, have returned. Some of the actors had gotten a bit better known in the 2 years between the films. Oded Fehr was starting to get a lot of both television and film work fresh off of his Ardeth Bey performance. Rachel Weisz wasn’t yet the Oscar winner she would be from The Constant Gardener, but stints in Enemies At The Gate and Beautiful Creatures made her far more familiar between these films. It’s interesting that I’ve gotten these Mummy films at the same time that I was finally able to break out of here and see the third, and most recent, entry into the Mummy franchise. I rather enjoyed the new film, but after rewatching the first one again I can’t help but notice how much better it really was than either of the other two. At first I thought it might have something to do with the anticipation of that first film along with the general “newness” of it all. Now that I’ve seen the first one several times over almost as many formats, I know I couldn’t have been more wrong. Continue Reading
