Crank

I’ve always maintained that actor Jason Statham is one of those actors that can turn any ridiculous film into a film that is still ridiculous, but damn entertaining to watch. Such is the case with the two Transporter films, which are two films that aren’t really “good” per say, but rather entertaining as all hell. Statham’s recent film Crank is another pure example, as the film isn’t really Oscar material, but sure knows how to keep us tuned in for its brief 87 minute length. Continue Reading

Open Season

Nowadays it seems that studios would rather produce stupid eye-candy type animated films that don’t really rely on plot and characters but instead rely on visuals to impress their audience. Hearing numerous praise for Open Season, I decided to give it my time. The end result is that Open Season isn’t quite the gem some have been calling it, but it sure is visually impressive with a funny enough storyline. Continue Reading

Flyboys

War films have always been the type of film that hold a high level of enjoyment for me. Even though I’ve never (luckily I might add) experienced war first hand, I’ve had numerous family members that have. I suppose war films are so important to me because war is an occurrence that will always be occurring regardless of time. World War I based films in particular are usually interesting as this was a tumultuous time for everyone involved. So what exactly happened with Fox’s recent WWI based film Flyboys? Continue Reading

The Covenant

Man, oh man. What is today with studios treating stupid, monotonous films like they’re new pieces of work? I sometimes wonder why I sit down and waste my time with films like The Covenant. The only reason one can think of is so I can tell everyone to simply avoid a film like or because there is something eerily attracting about bad, cheesy films that we must see. Continue Reading

The Guardian

A quick question for all of you before I begin this. When will these feel-good films stop being made? Every single one of them is advertised in the same exact manner. They tell us that these characters are going through a tough experience with an underdog tone. Sure films of this nature can be great (try Remember the Titans and the recent Invincible), but for every film that is good, we’re given a film that tries way too hard. A perfect example is the recent film The Guardian that suffers from being overly long. Continue Reading

Goal! The Dream Begins

Soccer has always been a big part of my life. While I don?t follow it as actively as I use to as a kid (I played soccer for 9 years), I still love watching the World Cup every 4 years and watching random soccer films. Low and behold my excitement when received in the latest soccer film entitled Goal! The Dream Begins.

The basic plot of the film goes a little something like this. Santiago Munez (Kuno Becker) works in a local Los Angeles Chinese restaurant as a busboy (obviously for minimal wages). His li… Continue Reading

Due to Street and McCabe both being present at the scene, both are demoted (Street to the gun cage and McCabe simply quits). Even though the current captain despises Street, Hondo convinces him to allow Street a chance to be on the team once again. To speed up this synopsis, Street gets on the team with a few other members. Continue Reading

The Great Raid

The Great Raid Cover Art

The Great Raid tells the story of one of the most triumphant rescue missions in U.S. military history. The mission at hand involves the necessary rescue of about 500 P.O.W.’s held at Canatuan. The U.S. is obviously worried about this group of P.O.W.’s since a previous 150 P.O.W.’s had been burned alive. Enter the talented, highly untrained and untested 6th Ranger Battalion, chosen to lead this mission. As they travel 30 miles behind enemy lines in hopes of saving these soldiers, the story of these men, and the other connected stories, really become interesting. Continue Reading

Species

Species Cover Art

Species is your typical horror film. Lots of explosions, some plot, actors who don’t belong here but are put in to try to add some credibility to the flick, a relatively unknown woman baring her chest, and lots of killing. Anyhow, the film takes place around 1993. The U.S. government receives a transmission giving us information on how to splice alien D.N.A. with human genetics. Hmm.. Sounds like something we want to do huh? Lots of success will come from this no? After experimenting a few times, the scientist hit the jackpot and the result is ‘Sil’, a woman (played by Natasha Henstridge) who can change from a gorgeous woman to a ‘holy crap I’m about to die’ kick-butt alien in just a few seconds.
