I’ve Loved You So Long

I’ve Loved You So Long

Arousing curiosity from me at the Golden Globes where I’ve Loved you So Long was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actress, It’s about time I get to actually watch this film. Very rarely do foreign films disappoint me, and one with so much nominations and awards to boot. While I’ve Loved you So Long didn’t take home the awards for the aforementioned nominations there is a general consensus that the film did in fact earn its place at the Globes. Continue Reading

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Movie trailers can be very misleading. For the most part they make a movie look like it will be much better than it ultimately turns out to be. There are a few exceptions to this rule, with the most recent being Star Trek. While Star Trek looked very promising based on a great trailer, the film was even better. Like I indicated, this is very unusual. There are trailers for certain films that prove be right on point. The trailer for Paul Blart: Mall Cop was just such a trailer. When I saw the trailer for the film in the theater, I couldn’t help but think to myself that, gee, this looks like a dumb film. My initial impressions proved correct after viewing the Blu-ray release of the film. Continue Reading

Passengers

Passengers

Being a reviewer of high def media sure has its benefits. One is that you get a chance to see films that you may otherwise have either never heard about or never really thought to purchase or rent. It gives you the opportunity to see some real gems that you would have otherwise missed. However, having access to all these films is a two edged sword, as you also have to review films that you may wish you had never seen or wasted your time seeing. That brings us the the film Passengers, which I really had not heard of before it arrived at my doorstep. It certainly had an interesting premise. Was it a gem or a real loser? The answer lies below. Continue Reading

Kramer vs. Kramer

Kramer vs. Kramer

Having beaten out the likes of Apocalypse Now for the Best Picture Academy Award in 1979, Kramer vs. Kramer surely must be something special. With the former being a timeless classic, I have my doubts that Kramer vs. Kramer really should have taken away the statue all those years ago. But mind you, the film stars two of the most well respected and acclaimed actors of our time; Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep. Not only did the film itself take home the top prize, the aforementioned actors took home top honours in the Best Actor and Best Actress in a Supporting Role category. Continue Reading

The House Bunny

The House Bunny

It’s hard to believe that ten years ago Anna Farris was the little known actress with a supporting role in Scary Movie. Since then she had garnered some popularity in a string of sequels and some big name supporting roles including The Hot Chick, Waiting, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, and my personal favorite Just Friends. Throughout her career we usually see her playing the same ditzy role, an oblivious air head susceptible to slapstick comedy antics, and I have a feeling The House Bunny isn’t going to be far off her norm. The Pink Panther

The Pink Panther

The Pink Panther…um…what can I say?  It wasn’t that the movie was terribly awful, but it wasn’t particularly great either.  This one is definitely a fans-only release.  I think I lied when I wrote my Blu-ray review of The Rundown. I said that was going to be my shortest review, but I think this one might.  I find it hard to write a review about a movie that dulls the senses so much (that statement sounds strange coming from a guy who likes Dumb and Dumber so much).  I do admit to chuckling a few laughs during the film.  One scene in particular, I let out a muffled chuckle and my wife turned to me and said “Seriously?”  She has no patience or tolerance whatsoever for The Pink Panther, although she also admitted to having never seen the beloved 1960 Pink Panther classics. The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc

The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc

In the year 1420, King Henry V of England and King Charles VI of France signed the Treaty of Troyes.  This treaty arranged the inheritance of the French throne by Henry V upon the death of Charles VI.  The events that would ultimately undermine this agreement were the deaths of each man in 1422, just two months apart from one another.  In years soon to follow, both empires would be plunged into war as England invaded France and a tumultuous history between the two would ensue.  It wasn’t until the rise of Joan of Arc, a peasant girl steeped in the Catholic faith, that the English would soon realize she was a force to be reckon with.  Continue Reading

Open Season 2

Open Season 2

Did you ever judge and neglect a book by its cover, only to be pleasantly surprised later by its content?  That is the case with Open Season 2 and myself.  Not only is the movie a direct-to-video release, but also the cover art looks like a film only a kid could possibly love.  The truth of the matter is that I actually liked the film after my initial viewing.  Like most animated releases of the modern day, the subject matter is much more adult than the studios will ever admit.  I am afraid most of the inside jokes and content will go completely over a kid’s head.  It makes me wonder just how many animated features, growing up as a kid, that I missed out on the true meaning of them because I was not old enough to understand.  Anyway, let’s move on and discuss the animated film, Open Season 2, in greater detail.  Shall we? The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep

Water Horse Cover Art

For decades there has been some speculation about a certain Scottish loch and the prehistoric creature or creatures that might inhabit the deep waters. There have been a few pictures, most if not all proven as fakes over the years, depicting something akin to a Plesiosaur. The creature appears to have a long neck and a large body supported by fin-like appendages. By now the Loch Ness Monster, or Nessie, as it is often called, is a staple of modern mythology. Whether truth or fiction, the small Scottish countryside has made a bit of a cottage industry from the fabled creature. Of course, it is as children that we are the most fascinated with such things. There’s that age when we’re apt to believe almost anything, especially if we want it to be true enough. Water horse: Legend Of The Deep is directed at just such an audience, purporting to unveil the true story of the Loch Ness Monster. Continue Reading

21

21 Coverart

I love Las Vegas. I haven’t been there that many times but the times I have been there I definitely feel like I am in another world. Everywhere you look, the bright lights and all of the people just make you feel more alive in some way, for me at least. It might be the thrill of winning a bunch of money gambling or the fact that you are in a place known for being sin city, and what happens there stays there. Being based on a true story, 21 should provide anyone who visits Las Vegas with the same dream, to make a boatload of cash. Continue Reading

Untraceable

Untraceable Cover Art

There are so many movies that get released; sometimes people will question why they even get released in the first place. I know I have done it myself. In regards to this film, Untraceable, I am more than sure someone asked the same question. Given its negative reviews, it is hard to go into viewing the film with a positive opinion. However, that is why you should watch the film yourself and be the judge. Continue Reading

Men in Black

Men in Black Cover Art

If I said it once, I have said it a thousand times; Will Smith just knows how to make money when it comes to movies. Sure, he has had some flops, but for the most part, a 100 million box office is almost a given. Tommy Lee Jones is no slouch either, with films such as The Fugitive, No Country for Old Men and Man of the House; he also has a box office draw. Put those two together and what do you have? Well, you have yourself a money making team that is almost sure to entertain. Continue Reading
