Delivering a worthy portrayal as Charles Chaplin seems like an insurmountable task, but Robert Downey Jr. proved to be adroit and became the most talked about thing in Richard Attenborough’s film. Despite some critisisms that it skims over important parts of his life while focusing too long on others, this might be one of the best Hollywood Bio pics yet made. Continue Reading

Bad Boys is one of the early Sean Penn films that may be a bit off your radar, it wasn’t a high profile film at the time and it seems to just have gotten plopped onto Blu-ray and released with little to no effort. Is this film a hidden gem or simply just another catalog release?

We didn’t ask for it, and yet we were still delivered another direct-to-video, fart-joke laced sequel. While attempting to cash in on the success of its predecessor, this one comes out half baked…or under-cooked, or whatever restaurant pun you wish to digest…just know that it’s a bad film! After Dark Horrorfest, commonly known as “8 films to die for” is an annual horror festival that began in 2006 and features eight feature length horror films. Since the initial Horrorfest in 2006 it has become somewhat of a cult hit, each year cranking out more thrills and chills. Unlike a typical film festival, Horrorfest doesn’t take place at just one location; it actually plays in dozens of theatres across the country, with more being added all the time. Continue Reading

It is not very often that I look at a Blu-ray case and can exclaim “this is crap” even before putting the movie into my Blu-ray player. However, when I see the film is “by a producer of Righteous Kill”, and features 50 Cent as both an actor and an Executive Producer, I am skeptical. Then, I notice it is from the wildly inconsistent Lionsgate (home of classics such as Wrong Side of Town).
Be assured, loyal readers, that I have done you a service this day. Due to my review, I hope that none of you will ever need to subject yourself to this painful exercise in cinema. While some films are unintentionally funny due to their badness, some are simply unwatchable. Caught in the Crossfire is clearly in the latter category. Continue Reading

When you hear about a film that takes place entirely within one location that may feel pretty intimate, you’re going to get to know everything about that location and everyone in it… how about when the whole film takes place within a coffin with one guy buried inside? Claustrophobic? Does the film hop the hurdles of making its audience uncomfortable with just the setting alone or does it lack the breathing room?

If you’ve seen Talladega Nights with Will Ferrell you may recall a scene in which Ricky Bobby (Ferrell) makes reference to Highlander and talks about it winning the academy award for “The Best Movie Ever”. Also having a brother whom is a huge fan of the films, I was excited to sit down and watch this movie with him and see Sean Connery in his hay day. Does the film hold up to time and does it deserve that fictional Oscar?

Alpha and Omega was a film that came out fairly under the radar with little marketing. I only remember hearing about it because it was one of the many in the slew of upcoming 3d films to hit theaters in 2010. With its fairly talented cast including Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere and the late great Dennis Hopper; I was surprised that the film didn’t receive a stronger marketing campaign. Was there a reason?

Often the brunt of satirical humor, outside of its cult following Highlander isn’t exactly highly sought after. Failing to bring in the numbers at the box office; Highlander has since found enough of a following to spawn several sequels, television spin-offs and a recently announced remake. The installment in question today is the second which reunites Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert in their original roles, whilst bringing the ever talented Michael Ironside and Virginia Madison into the mix. With the new cast improvements can Highlander 2: The Quickening improve upon an already decent movie, or will it completely tarnish the franchise that never really had legs to carry it?
