Constantine Coverart

Keanu Reeves has come a long way since the days of Bill & Ted. He really came into his own when given the part of Neo in The Matrix. The film Constantine suits him well as the character is very dark, with not too much emotion. This seems to be the type of character he is used to playing in many of his recent films, including the up coming The Day the Earth Stood Still. Constantine is a film full of action, drama and some scares, which is all a good thing and really is a thrill ride kind of a film. [...]

21 Coverart

I love Las Vegas. I haven’t been there that many times but the times I have been there I definitely feel like I am in another world. Everywhere you look, the bright lights and all of the people just make you feel more alive in some way, for me at least. It might be the thrill of winning a bunch of money gambling or the fact that you are in a place known for being sin city, and what happens there stays there. Being based on a true story, 21 should provide anyone who visits Las Vegas with the same dream, to make a boatload of cash. [...]

Untraceable Cover Art

There are so many movies that get released; sometimes people will question why they even get released in the first place. I know I have done it myself. In regards to this film, Untraceable, I am more than sure someone asked the same question. Given its negative reviews, it is hard to go into viewing the film with a positive opinion. However, that is why you should watch the film yourself and be the judge. [...]

Men in Black Cover Art

If I said it once, I have said it a thousand times; Will Smith just knows how to make money when it comes to movies. Sure, he has had some flops, but for the most part, a 100 million box office is almost a given. Tommy Lee Jones is no slouch either, with films such as The Fugitive, No Country for Old Men and Man of the House; he also has a box office draw. Put those two together and what do you have? Well, you have yourself a money making team that is almost sure to entertain. [...]

Persepolis Cover Art

The interesting thing about reviewing movies is that at any given time you can be handed a movie that is just so out of your usual realm of movie watching. That is what I like about reviewing movies. You get to experience so many different genres than the typical mainstream flick. So, when the time came to review Persepolis, I knew this would be one of those times. However, could my mainstream mind handle the change? [...]

Meet The Spartans Cover Art

Movies about parodies and spoofs seem to be a dime a dozen. Really, for me it all started back with Kentucky Fried Movie and Amazon Women on the Moon. It then went onto the likes of Airplane and The Naked Gun. Of course, within the past 8 years, the onslaught of parodies has flooded the movie market. This time around it is Meet the Spartans, a take off of the hit movie, 300. [...]

College Road Trip

For starters, I am not a big fan of a couple of things. The first is rated “G” Disney movies that aren’t animated and the second thing being Martin Lawrence in a G-rated Disney movie that isn’t animated. My expectation for the movie going in was very low and I was dead on. Maybe it is my age. But even if I were a young kid, I don’t see me liking it any more. [...]

The Other Boleyn Girl

For some reason I wanted to watch The Other Boleyn Girl. I really didn’t know what it was about until I started watching it. I remember the TV commercials for it and just thinking, I bet that has a really nice looking transfer, I got to check this out. Also, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johannson were in it so, right there, it is a must watch anyway. [...]

From Hell

From Hell Cover Art

Though comic scribe Alan Moore may want little to nothing to do with this film adaptation of his graphic novel of the same name, From Hell manages to be an entertaining, pulpy, if not a little overblown thriller. Of course, it doesn’t hurt when Johnny Depp plays the lead and directors the Hughes Brothers work hard to break from the norm of their previous efforts (Menace II Society, Dead Presidents). Having only viewed this movie upon its original DVD release, and feeling mixed about the results, I found myself enjoying From Hell more than I expected or remembered. Maybe the great transfer on the Blu-ray Disc had something to do with it. [...]

Rescue Dawn

Rescue Dawn Cover Art

Since its limited theatrical release Rescue Dawn has caught my eye, mainly due to my curiosity regarding the Christian Bale, Steve Zhan combination but also because I?m a fan of the genre. Sure the Vietnam flick has been done a thousand times, but the fact that Rescue Dawn is based upon a real life account makes me feel better about it. Originally German director Werner Herzog made a documentary some ten years ago on the life of German-American U.S. Navy Pilot entitled Little Dieter Needs to Fly. Since then it has gained some notoriety and the compelling story of Dieter Dengler has made its way to the big screen staring arguably one of Hollywood?s finest, Christian Bale. [...]

Cars

Cars is an animated tale of a world much like ours with one major exception - there are no people, everyone is a car or some variation there of. It is another in the line of extremely well liked and extremely successful films from Disney and Pixar studios. In my opinion it is the worst film in the Pixar line; but of course the most wrinkled 100 dollar bill in your wallet is still a 100 dollar bill. It is the story of a hot shot rookie driver voiced by the always entertaining Owen Wilson. He is all about winning and all about instant gratification. It isn’t until he gets stranded in a small town that is no longer on the beaten path does he realize there is more to life. He finds out that are more important things such as friendship and enjoying the journey along the way. [...]

Ratatouille

Ratatouille marks Pixar’s 8th feature film release, fresh off a $552,000,000 world wide box office intake it hopes to hit Blu ray with the quality we’ve come to expect from Pixar. Some of Pixar’s classics dating back to 1995 include Toy Story 1 and 2, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles, so naturally I have high expectations for Ratatouille. The most noticeable difference in comparison to some of the past Pixar releases, is in the fact that Ratatouille doesn’t boast an A list cast of voice actors. Sure there are a few recognizable names and some respected old timers, but not the usual group you would expect from a Pixar film. That’s not to say anything negative about Ratatouille’s cast, just simply an observation. So with big shoes to fill, Pixar sets out for the second time with Brad Bird as director (The Incredibles) with hopes to engage us into the life of a rat aspiring to become a chef in Paris. [...]

The Day After Tomorrow

This movie has grown on me over the years. My expectations were way to high the first time I saw it and it initially let me down; but I’ve leveled those expectations into and realized it is a very good disaster movie with great special effects. The story of the movie revolves around global warming and the effects it has on the planet. It has gotten so bad that it has caused extreme weather such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods throughout the entire planet. It is setting us back into another ice age. A scientist played by Dennis Quaid figures this out and tries to share his grim findings with the vice president but is ignored until it is to late. His son, played by Jake Gylennhal is trapped in New York when the massive storms start to hit. Dennis Quaid decides to journey to New York to save him. [...]
